Granite Countertop Colors

Granite, like marble and other substances are natural stones that add warmth and nature to our interior areas. A granite counter top brings a depth of warmth, a grounding sense of solidity to your environs. Granite is the earth itself and incorporating it into your kitchen or bathroom countertop area is an excellent way to bring the beauty of this stone into your home. And the variety of granite countertop colors is just outrageous. Every shade from white to black and every color and variation in between can be found.

For the most part, beige and brown shades of granite have been most popular, as these colors are neutral and so will be easy to remodel around in the future. More recently, the colors blue and black have been increasing in popularity, and market prices seem to be reflecting this.

Some types of granite have more ‘movement’ than others, and some have none at all. Movement is the additional color pattern that may be found in addition to the background or main color of granite. When you see the way that combining movement and color makes a given style of granite its character, you see how easy it is for no two pieces of granite to look exactly alike. There will always be at least some small variation in color or movement between two pieces of granite.

So take the time to shop around and see all the various types of granite styles that are available. If you want to save some time, just call ahead to any showroom where you will be going and find out how many different granite styles they have in the main color category that you are interested in. This can save you a lot of time. Many places won’t have much in the way of orange granite, for example.

If you believe you’ve narrowed down your selections between a few very similar styles of granite, go ahead and ask the supplier if they will send you samples of the granite countertop colors that you are interested in. This way you will be able to compare them up close in your home with your other kitchen appliances and accessories.

If you would like to see various granite countertop colors in your home yet have not narrowed down the selection yet, many granite suppliers offer sample kits that contain a variety of granite colors. Many times these granite dealers will even have different sub categories of sample packs to choose from, such as a ‘warm’ or ‘cool’ sample set.

If you have some basic Photoshop skills, it can be fun to take a picture of your kitchen and change the countertop color by selecting and altering only the color of the countertop areas in the photograph. This way you can actually see what green or rose colored countertops in your kitchen or bathroom would look like. You can even apply a granite type pattern in order to more accurately represent granite in your granite countertop colors experimenting.
