Soapstone Countertops And Other Natural Stone

Your kitchen décor is an important part of your overall home décor. And your countertops are one of the most important kitchen elements. Consider soapstone countertops or one of the other natural stone countertops.

There are many different types of natural stone that you can choose for a solid surface countertop.

1. Soapstone
Like granite or slate soapstone is talc quarried in Vermont or Brazil. Cost wise it is comparable to granite or slate. Soapstone countertops are nonporous so they won’t stain easily and they aren’t affected by temperature or chemicals. It is also resistant to stains and hot pots. Just lightly sand to remove scratches.

If you want to darken the finish just apply mineral oil. Vermont Soapstone has been the leading fabricator for countertops, sinks, and fireplaces since way back in 1856.

If you want a luxury kitchen soapstone is definitely worth considering. It is a soft warm stone that is often referred to as metamorphic stone. Choose from blue, gray, or green tones.

2. Granite
Granite is igneous rock which means way back in time it was once molten formed deep in the earth. The specks you see in granite are the different minerals that are found within Granite, giving it that salt and pepper effect. Granite may also have the same type of vein effect that you see with marble.

Granite is a very hard stone that is very durable. It can be completed with a matte finish or high gloss. It is easily cleaned and available in wide range of colors.

3. Quartz
Is also a natural stone but because it is mixed with a resin to produce a compound that is virtually indestructible. It’s non porous, requires no maintenance, and is exceptionally durable. With so many color choices you will have no problem matching up you’re your counter to your kitchen décor. And because quartz is almost as hard as diamonds wearablity is not an issue. It will last a lifetime!

The gentle crazing enhances the appearance of this fine countertop and the surface requires no maintenance other than a wiping with a damp cloth. And if you are worried about color choice – don’t – there are more than 5000 colors to choose from.

These four stone countertop choices are all worth considering although there is no question that soapstone countertops certainly present a unique look that’s hard to beat.
